Two Japanese Satsuma Vases

20th century, one of ovoid shape rising to a tall wide neck, painted with shaped bird and foliate cartouches on an overlapping diaper patterned ground all below a multi-patterned lappet band below the rim, unmarked; a shouldered vase worked with two large panels of samurai on a multi-patterned diaper ground between molded butterfly at the neck above a ring handle supporting tied rope descending down the sides, the base with three character mark reading Satsuma; together with an Arita enameled cylindrical vase with two panels of samurai and blossoming flowers in a basket, surrounded by smaller cartouches of flowers, all on an iron red field of scrolling foliage between bands of raised chrysanthemum blossoms below the rim and at the foot, base with Arita six character mark in underglaze blue, a western stone base and a gilt bronze base included.

wear to some enameling and star crack to base of arita vase, satsuma vases with light scattered surface wear, good condition.
